A wonderful antique silver gilt necklace from Sri Lanka dating to the late 19th Century. The necklace will have been made by skilled local jewellers based in the Matara region with European customers in mind.
The necklace features a lovely mix of traditional Victorian motifs of bows and flowers but in a style typical of jewellers of the region. The ornate panels are studded with a mix of sapphires and topaz in varying pink tones that sparkle beautifully under the light.
The necklace features a hooked clasp attached to a flat chain that sits comfortably on the neck. The chain can be lengthened at the clasp if needed.
There are three glass stones that do not register when tested and will have been replaced over time. The necklace remains in good antique condition overall.
